Wonderful Wildlife

Hamish drew this really cool picture of a giraffe using the PAINT programme. We are studying different types of wildlife this term for science. We are learning about animals and their various habitats and environments.

Wildlife Sketches

We are learning to sketch in detail using our observational skills. This is a picture of a tuatara.

Laiana did some fantastic shading on her tuatara as well as sketching all the details such as the scales and the wrinkles on the skin. We learnt that tuatara have 5 little claws on each foot and that they lay eggs.

Andrae drew this cute little kiwi. She got a principals award for her sketching this week. Well done Andrae!

Writing Instructions

We are learning how to write instructions clearly by writing each step out carefully and in detail. We thought it would be a great idea to write instructions on how to ride a bike. Angus lives just over the fence from school so he ran home and got his bike and brought it to school so we could talk about the steps and actually see it for ourselves at the same time.
Here I am writing instructions about how to ride a bike. As you can see I remembered to wear my helmet!
After we finished the writing I was allowed to ride around the court as fast as I could. Luckily Mr Harrison never saw me!

Numeracy

On Wednesday we had a special teacher called Mrs Cobb come into our class to take a maths lesson. She showed us some really cool maths games that we can play that help us learn our basic facts. Here you can see the circles group doing an activity with Mrs Cobb The circles are learning to count on in their heads quickly without using their fingers.

Making sandwiches

Here I am getting some marmite on my knife ready to spread on my sandwich.
We made sandwiches on the 21st of may. Here is a photo of Jayjay,Laiana,Macey and Ellen making a sandwich. We had to write each step out clearly in our draftwriting books. We had to get a buddy to read out the steps so we could make the sandwich.
I am eating my sandwich that me and Sam S made. Sam read the instructions to me while I made the marmite sandwich. We cut the sandwich so we could both eat it. I think the marmite sandwich was very delicious.

We went to the Life Education Truck this morning. Here is a picture of Harold and Helen.Helen taught us about healthy food and unhealthy food.We didn't get to see Tam but it was actully a lot of fun without Tam.We had an awesome time at the Life Education truck.
Harold was sick today and through the weekend. When we got inside the truck Harold was still in his pyjamas. He had pink pjs and Barbie dolls on it.He came out and said we look very intelligent and good looking.Harold had a look in his dads telescope and saw an alien on earth. Here is Jahmalaki and Ashlie with some food. There were three groups.Food made from Ingredients,Food from Animals and Food from the ground. After that, Harold chose Ashlie to come and get the activity books from him.He held on to the books in his mouth and wouldn't let Ashlie take the them away. It was really funny because Ashlie hit him on the head and then he let go!

Treewalkers

It was very fun when the tree walkers came to our school. They gave us an apple tree. They said it was a MAGIC apple tree because it grew two different types of apples. The kapa haka group performed for the tree walkers. They thought it was GREAT that we like trees. They said that trees were on the planet before us.

Gymnastics practise

We are busy practising our skills for the gymnastics festival in week 6. Over 25o pupils usually compete from about 10 schools around the Tasman District. The festival is held at the Rec Centre...come along and watch us if you can!
One of the compulsory activities is creating a human pyramid. Here you can see some groups working together to help each other balance. Some people are still a bit wobbly but I'm sure they will improve over the next few weeks.

Way to go Eva- don't fall off now!
(Tiana looks like she is ready to catch you if you lose your balance)

Look mum, no hands!
The people on the bottom need to have strong backs and keep very still to make it easier for others to steady themselves on top.

Kapa Haka

This is our Kapa Haka group performing at our special assembly on Tuesday. We have 7 girls from our class who have joined the group this year. Mrs Whitwell-Archer and Mr Marr work hard with these pupils, they practise every week during their lunch break and I think you will agree that they look fantastic in their uniforms.

The Kapa haka group get ready to perform on stage..
