Weird and Wacky Olympics

The Middle Syndicate held a weird and wacky olympics at school. Everyone was in a team and we marched a lap of the school with the olympics torch. We took part in weird events such as the slow walking race , the plastic golfball shotput and the backwards sprint. We ll had a heap of fun and everyone took home a medal.

Sophie's nana visits Rm 7

This is Sophie and her nana Maureen. She has just been to China and Beijing for a holiday so when she came on Friday we asked her things about how hot it was there. She said it was really nice in China and she gave us some postcards. She told us lots of interesting stories about her experiences in China. She walked along the Great Wall and visited the Forbidden City. She really enjoyed the Chinese food although she found it VERY hard to eat with chopsticks!
She said the Chinese people were very friendly and polite and that she would love to visit China again one day.

Rabbit Island.

This is Tyson and Angus getting ready to go to Rabbit Island to compete against other schools around the Nelson district. Tyson got 15th and Angus got 5th in the 8 year old boys race. We had to run through a pine forest and a field and it was very hard. There were lots of people in each race so we did really well. Luckily it didn't rain during our race, the rain stopped before our race. We hope we can make it again next year and hopefully we can get in the top 3 this time.

Flax flowers

On Friday some of the class made flax flowers for Privilege. Jahamlaki helped us to make them and brought the flax to school from home. Bailey made his flower first then Miss R made hers . They were quite tricky to make, you had to weave the bits of flax in and out in a pattern. When we finished we had to wash our hands because you can get really sick from the flax if it goes near your mouth.

Giraffes can't dance...can they?

Today most of our class went to the hall to watch a special performance called "Giraffes can't dance"- there were 4 dancers altogether and they wore these really cool costumes. The giraffe was called Gerald. All the other jungle animals made fun of him because he couldn't dance very well and he was very clumsy. In the end, after a lot of practise, he became a really good dancer.

At the end of the show, the performers got everyone to stand up and have a go at dancing themselves. Here is a video of us all- it was lots of fun!
We got to ask the dancers some questions at the end- we found out that most of them first started dancing when they were about 4 years old and they have all studied dance at a special school in Wellington.

School Photos

Last week we had our official class and individual photos taken. We all had to make sure we had brushed our hair and put our make up on beforehand. Unfortunately Shaquille was absent on Thursday so he won't be in our photo.
We had to line up in order from shortest to tallest. Sam B was the shortest and Daniel was the tallest. The photographer told us we had to say "Nana's knickers" so that we were all smiling at the same time...he was very funny.
When it was the teachers turn to have their staff photo taken they all had to say "children are smelly!"
It is always nice to look back on class photos in years to come...
(Don't you all look so cute in the photo!)

Healthy Hamburgers

This is Sam about to eat her delicious hamburger that was cooked to perfection by the wonderful students of Room 8...hamburgers cost $3.50 each. You get a tasty beef pattie with lettuce, grated carrot and beetroot, topped with sauce and fresh bun.Mmmm, yum!

Faiga, Christine, Billy and Taylor are the chefs for today. The senior syndicate are selling hamburgers on Tuesdays to raise money for the ski trip. They are doing a great job, Ms Dowell doesn't even need to supervise the cooking as they are very responsible and capable of doing it all themselves!!
(I wonder if they do the cooking at home as well??)
