A Special Visitor

This term we have been learning about the Paralympics and looking at how people with disabilities cope with everyday challenges. We invited Donna to come and speak to the senior syndicate about her disability and what its like to be in a wheelchair.
She had a tumour growing in her spine when she was 18 and she had to have it removed. Since then she has been in a wheelchair but she says shes lucky because she got to live. She lives a normal life now and has competed in the New York marathon not once but TWICE!
She uses a special hand-bike where she pedals with both hands together with her legs out on front of her. This type of bike costs approx $5000!

Donna invited one person from each class to have a go in her wheelchair. Bailey was the lucky person chosen from Rm 7. He had a bit of trouble controlling it though and nearly drove into the rubbish bin!
