Bike Safety

Today Mr Tonkin came to talk to us about bike safety. We watched a video about a boy who really wante a bike but he had to find a helmet first. At the start of the movie we saw a boy who had fallen off his bike and became unconscious. He is now brain damaged and cannot walk or talk. if he had been wearing a helmet he might be still OK. After we had watched the movie we went outside and did a safety checklist with our bikes. Mr Tonkin told us we had to get into pairs and get a bike.

Here is a photo of Sam and Susie checking each others helmet straps to make sure they are correctly fitted. If your helmet is too loose, it will not protect you in an accident. The best helmets are the ones that are brightly coloured so that they can be easily seen by drivers on the road. Helmets should also have a special safety approved sticker on them.
