Measurement
For maths we have been learning how to measure lengths accurately using centimetres, millimetres and metres. This week we had fun measuring various things in our playground such as the distance between the oak tree and our classroom and the length of the netball and tennis courts. Some of us were more accurate at measuring than others! The netball court recorded lengths of 27m, 28m, 29m and even 30m!!I wonder who was correct?

The new classroom
We have an update on the new classroom that has been moved to our school and refurbished. The builders have nearly finished and now the painters have been in to paint the outside walls. The builders are busy making a deck to go around the outside and the corridor has now been completed. It looks great and Mrs Nicholls is looking forward to moving in soon with her pupils.
SHREK 3
Our school is holding a premiere viewing of the new Shrek movie on Thursday 7th June. We are selling tickets to help raise money for the middle and senior school camps at the end of the year. You can buy tickets at the school office for $10. The first show is at 5.45pm and the other is at 7.30pm. Be in quick before they all sell out! If it's anything like the first 2 movies, it will be hilarious...

Hockey Coaching
We have been lucky enough to have a coach called Fiona come over from Nelson recently to teach us some basic hockey skills. She showed us how to dribble and trap the ball carefully and then we played "Creep up Jack" using hockey sticks and balls. After that we played another cool game where we each got given a number. When your number was called out, you had to run into the middle and try to score a goal between some cones against your partner. We really enjoyed this game, (it was exhausting though) and it got a bit dangerous with hockey sticks flying everywhere at one stage!
Lots of pupils have said they going to choose hockey as their sport for Winter Tournament next term now that they know how much fun it can be.

Cinderella
We created our own invitations to the Royal Ball as well as written apology letters to Cinderella from the stepsisters. We also pretended to be one of the main characters and wrote a diary based on the events that happened.
Our class are going to present this story as a play to our school assembly in week 6 so we are now busy rehearsing our lines and getting our costumes organised.

Basketball
On Monday nights after school, junior basketball players from around the district come together to play in a competition at the Rec Centre. We have 2 teams entered this term. The Incredibles and The Squarepants. It is a lot of fun and good for our fitness as there is a lot of running around required! We are learning to dribble the ball with more control and defend the opposition so that they don't score too many goals against us. Our skills are improving every week and we are getting better at working together as a team and passing the ball around all our players. We also need to keep practising our goals so we become more accurate shooters in the game.

Gymnastics
We are practising our gymnastics skills in PE at school at the moment. Our class are competing in a gym festival on Wednesday 30th May at the Rec Centre. There will be over 250 pupils competing at this event from our district. We need to be able to balance along a beam and perform a cross vault on the boxhorse as well perform floor routines. Here is Chloe and Josh showing off their skills in the hall during one of our practices.

The netball season has begun...
There are several members of Room 7 who are playing netball on a Saturday morning at the Rec Centre. They are playing in the Future Ferns competition and usually play between 10am and 12noon. Our teams are called the Mot South Stars and the Mot South shooters. The players are learning to spread out on the court and defend their partners closely. They are all very enthusiastic and are showing great sportsmanship skills on the court. Come down a watch if you get a chance...it is great to have supporters on the sidelines cheering us on!
