Technology Unit - Bridges

We have been designing and building our own bridges as part of our technology unit.
This is Breeze and Christine busy working on their bridge. We had to use problem solving skills to create a bridge that would be strong enough to hold up a heavy maths book. We were allowed to use cardboard, sticky tape, hotdog sticks and match sticks.

Class Assembly

Yesterday we presented a slideshow to the school about bridges. This has been our technology topic this term and we shared lots of interesting information about bridges. We used Google to search and download photos of famous bridges from around the world. We designed and built our own bridges last week with a partner and some of us shared these at assembly. We had to work co-operatively with our partner and use problem solving skills to carry out practical tasks.

Daffodil Day

Believe it or not...this is Miss Robinson. Did you recognise her? It was great to see so many teachers and staff get involved in "Wacky Hair" day as well. Reporters from "TheGuardian" came along to take photos of us as well, look out for us in the paper!

On Friday 25th August 2006 Motueka South School held a "Wacky Hair" day where pupils were encouraged to create their own wild and crazy hairstyle in recognition of Daffodil Day. Children who donated a gold coin received a cool Daffodil Day tattoo. We raised $204.95 altogether, half of this will go to the Cancer Society.
Thankyou to all the staff and pupils who supported us.
Room 7 had a special visitor, Mr Robinson, who came to speak to us about his battle with cancer. He had a bone marrow transplant over 10 years ago and is a cancer survivor!
