Here is Eva and Lyric with GI-ANT

A group of us went to watch the Nelson Giants play the Canterbury Rams on Saturday night at the Trafalgar Centre. It was such an exciting game and Nelson ended up winning 84-83 in the last 3 seconds.

We had great seats, right behind the goal and next to the Wannabes. We cheered the players on and sang "I'm blind, I'm deaf, I wanna be the Ref!!"

The crowd was very loud and really got in behind the Giants team and supported them.

This is Rowan Gray. He is over 2 metres tall-we had to get him to bend down so we could fit him in the photo!

Some people stayed behind after the game to get autographs from the players and to stand next to them so they could see just how tall they REALLY were.

We hope Nelson wins the National Championship again this year.

Book Fair Parade

Our school ran a Book Fair on the last week of school. We all dressed up as our favourite book character and we had a parade in the playground. Mrs Beatson dressed up as Mrs Wishy-Washy and Mrs Latimer was Nana Mihi.

The Book Fair theme was "The Beach" so some people dressed in beach clothes instead. it was great to see so many people get involved and we sold lots of books too which was fantastic!

Here is Geronimo and his helpers. They did a wonderful job of setting up the hall and displaying all the books that were on sale during the week.

Aquatic Centre and Rabbit Island Trip

This is Isaac sitting on the boot of his dads car at Rabbit Island. That looks like a delicious lunch you have there Isaac!

Here is Tyson, Nick and Jesse getting ready for their treasure hunt. Everyone had to find lots of different things such as a piece of driftwood, a piece of metal, a fish skeleton and a yellow leaf.

Ashlie, Jahmalaki, Lyric and Laiana had heaps of fun in the lane pool practising their diving and pin drops. It was REALLY DEEP at one end and the water was way over their heads.

The wave pool was popular with everyone. Some people tried to stand up on the surfboards. Every 15 minutes the siren comes on to let people know that the waves are about to begin.

The spa pools are the warmest pools at the Aquatic Centre.

Iced Biscuits

On Friday Mrs Latimer took iced biscuits for Privilege. It was a very popular choice. Everyone got 3 biscuits each to decorate with icing and lollies. Here you can see Macey and Jay with their delicious looking biscuits!Mmmmmm..yum

Principals Awards

Angus and Shaquille are holding up their Principals Awards that they received this week at assembly. Angus wrote a wonderful fairytale based on Cinderella-he used his imagination and included lots of interesting language in his writing. He changed some of the main ideas in the traditional story and made it really funny.
Shaquille did some fantastic measuring in maths using centimetres and millimetres.
Congratulations boys, you are producing some awesome work!

Tidy Kiwi award

This term our class has been trying REALLY hard to keep our school environment clean and tidy. After lunch we often go out and pick up litter from our playground. You would be surprised at how much we collect some days -it can be up to 2 or 3 supermaket bags FULL of chippie packets, muesli bar wrappers and gladwrap.
This week we won the "Tidy Kiwi" award at assembly. Here you can see Lyric and Sapphire with Kevin the Kiwi.
Wouldn't it be fantastic if everyone remembered to put their rubbish in the bins after interval and lunch - lets keep Motueka South litter-free!

Measuring Madness

For maths today we used metre rulers to measure the distance between various buildings around our school. We used chalk to mark off each metre for the really

l-o-n-g things such as the tennis courts and the library deck and then recorded it into our books.

Ashlie and Jahmalaki are measuring the length of the bikeshed - it measured 13m altogether

Andrae and Sam H are measuring the length of the sandpit - it measured 10m altogether

Tiana, Jahmalaki and Eva are measuring how far it is from the school office to our classroom- it measured 17m altogether

We now know that 1 metre=100cm or 1000mm

Art Attack

On Friday we experimented with colour mixing for art. We tried to create 20 new colours by just using the primary colours: red yellow and blue. We also had a little bit of white and black to work with so we could make paler and darker colours too.

We can now apply the skills we practised today to our paintings in the future and make them much more interesting.

April Fools Day jokes!

Lots of people at school got into the spirit of April Fool's Day today...EVEN the teachers.

Mrs Latimer pretended to leave her room for an important phonecall.A mystery reliever arrived to take over the class. She seemed very old and grumpy....but very familiar looking?Mmmmmmm?

It was just Mrs L dressed up in a wig and glasses!

Room 5 though it was hilarious and couldn't stop laughing and shouting.

Mrs L then loaned her costume to Miss R and she tried to do the same thing to Room 7 but they weren't fooled at all!

Some people played some nasty tricks on their family before they came to school this morning - one person said that they put salt in a cup of tea instead of sugar-YUK, the poor mum!

Angus fooled a lot of his classmates too this morning. Here he is explaining in the video what he did to everyone. We will have to think of a way to get Angus back now won't we!

Isaac's holiday

This term we are experimenting with video footage and we are filming each other during oral language time.

This is Issac sharing his special Easter weekend news with the class. Isaac is going to bring some photos along to share with us of his trip. We googled Franz Josef Glacier on the computer and put it up on the large screen so we have an idea of what it looks like now. (The new data projector is fantastic!)

Isaac did a great job of explaining to us what a glacier actually is. Thanks Isaac!

Dagmar visits Rm7

This is Dagmar, she is a music teacher in Austria. She is visiting our school this week and came in to meet Room 7. We asked her lots of questions about life in Austria and she showed us on a map where Austria is. We found out that she has to drive 5 hours to get to a beach as Austria is land-locked, that mean sit is surrounded by land and does not have a coastline. It does have lots of rivers and lakes though. In Austria the children start school at 8am! They have 2 terms at school and they have 9 weeks holiday during the summer - imagine that!

Here is Ellen holding up a 20 Euro note. We passed it around and compared it to our money. Dagmar told us that $20= 12 euro approx.

Lost Property Box

It was our turn to present an item at assembly. This weeks school focus was "Use put ups - NOT put downs". We talked how important it is to say positive things to people to make them feel good about themselves rather than hurt their feelings.

We also sang Lost Property Box which was a lot of fun - Ashlie hid inside the box under all the clothes and them jumped out at the end!

It is great having assemblies outside in the fresh air now. We hope the weather stays warm for a few more weeks.

Weetbix Tryathlon

Here is Isaac and Angus with their gold medals!

On Sunday Isaac and I got up at 7.30am and raced over to Nelson for the weetbix tryathlon. We did a team race with Mac. Hamish Carter was at the tryathon too but he wasn't competing. Thousands of children from all around Nelson and tasman took part which is fantastic.

We each got a gold medal for taking part and we got a cool t-shirt too.

Munch and Crunch

Yesterday we had a visitor to our school who came along to talk to us about healthy food. She taught us that fruit and vegetables are very important and we need to eat them everyday as part of a balanced diet. She told us a story called "munch and crunch" and she dressed up in a costume.

World Maths Day

Here is Sam B and Bailey working on the laptop during Mathletics. Wednesday 5th March is World Maths Day and we all got special usernames and passwords to use. We have been racing people from all over the world . This programme is great for improving our basic facts knowledge and makes us faster at recalling sums.

A special delivery for Macey

It was Macey's birthday on the 3rd March. Her mum sent her a bunch of roses to school for her as a special birthday surprise!
They look and smell beautiful!! You are very lucky Macey.

Feet First

This week has been Walk to School Week. A walking schoolbus has been leaving from the Rec Centre everyday at 8.30am. Some people have won spot prizes and everyday our bus has got longer and longer! On Wednesday we had 84 children on our schoolbus.
It is a great way to get fit- some people come to school in the car even though they live close to school!

It was nice to see the seniors getting involved as well and setting a good example - meet our busdrivers Lucy and Sophie!

Moonhoppers

Here is Lyric, Macey and Sam H playing on the new moonhoppers at school. Miss R bought lots of new equipment for us to play with at lunchtimes including frisbees, softball gear and new basketballs.

Fun on Fridays!

It was "Free Choice Friday" in the pool today.

This is when we get to play with any gear we want to and we get to splash around and enjoy ourselves with beach balls, tyres and diving rings.

Sausage Sizzle

Wow, look at the long queue...

We are raising money for the Middle Syndicate this term by doing a sausage sizzle. Here is Sydnee and her mum busy cooking the sausages on the barbecue. They had to cook 50 sausages today!

You can buy a sausage and bread and a juicie for $2.50 every Friday until the end of the term.
