Fun on Fridays!

It was "Free Choice Friday" in the pool today.
This is when we get to play with any gear we want to and we get to splash around and enjoy ourselves with beach balls, tyres and diving rings.
Here is our class playing in the pool.
Here is Jahmalaki, Paige and Ellen playing in the pool

This is Jesse and Sapphire playing on the tyre and having fun.

Sausage Sizzle

Wow, look at the long queue...

We are raising money for the Middle Syndicate this term by doing a sausage sizzle. Here is Sydnee and her mum busy cooking the sausages on the barbecue. They had to cook 50 sausages today!
You can buy a sausage and bread and a juicie for $2.50 every Friday until the end of the term.

Motueka Museum

The middle syndicate went on a trip to the local museum to learn more about the history of our town. It was very interesting. We found out that the Motueka Wharf has not always been where it is today. It used to be further up the coast near the Kumaras.
We also spent time at Memorial Park playing games such as long ball which Mrs Latimer organised for us and we had a picnic lunch under the trees. It was a l-o-n-g walk from school in the hot sun. Everyone did very well and it was great to have so many parents come along too.

Clever Kids

Skateboarding is proving to be a very popular lunchtime activity at the moment. Shaquille and Bailey are busy learning new tricks on their skateboards....well done boys, it's great to see you getting involved and making great choices at breaktimes.

Stilts are also being used a lot these days in our playground. Andrae and Jahmalaki are learning to balance and walk on the stilts without falling off. Good thing you are practising on the grass girls, so you won't hurt yourselves too much if you do fall!

Fitness Interchange

Keep going Laiana - you can do it!!Only 15 seconds to go.....
This year the middle school are doing fitness interchange between each of the 3 classes. Each teacher takes a different activity and we rotate around week by week.
Mrs Latimer is taking ball games, Mrs W-A takes jump jam and Miss R takes circuits.
For circuits,we have 3o seconds to do as many star jumps as we can and then we record our scores. We do the same for sit ups, step ups, press ups and skips. The idea is to try and improve our scores each day and hopefully improve our fitness levels at the same time!

How good is your maths?

For maths this week we having been developing our knowledge of whole numbers from 0-1000. We are learning to order numbers from smallest to largest and put them in sequence.
We had to stand in a line according to the number we were holding - Shaquille had the smallest number which was 12 and Ashlie had the largest number wth 91.

Miss Robinson gave each of us a card with a number on it. Without speaking to anyone in our group we had to arrange ourselves in order and hold our cards up so everyone could see if we had got it right or not...here you can see Lyric, Sam H, Jay and Ashlie with their sequence. Did they get it right?

Bailey, Paige, Macey and Sapphire were very quick at doing this activity
Most of us are REALLY REALLY good at ordering numbers already and so Miss Robinson will have to give us harder numbers next time!

Introducing the pupils of Room 7!

Crusaders and Hurricanes

On Friday 25th January Motueka hosted a pre-season Super 14 match between the Crusaders and the Hurricanes. Dan Carter was injured so he didn't play but he was still popular with the crowd!
He signed autographs after the game and some people were lucky enough to get their photo taken with him...Miss Robinson was upset because her camera ran out of batteries inthe middle of the game!

Todd Blackadder arrived by helicopter and landed in the middle of the field.

Look at the crowd on the embankment. It was great to see so many local people showing their support by dressing up and and coming along to the Sportspark to watch.

The Hurricanes were warming up right next to the stands - it was exciting to see All Black players such as Jerry Collins and Conrad Smith in action.
Unfortunately the Hurricanes ended up losing the match 55-33.

End of Term Party

To celebrate the end of very busy year, the middle syndicate got together and had a shared lunch. As you can see, there was lots of delicious food for everyone to eat. Afterwards, some people had a water fight out on the backfield with Mrs Latimer which was lots of fun. Well done to everyone - we had a fantastic year in 2007!

Santa Surprise

On the last week of school we had a surprise visitor. Santa didn't arrive in a sleigh but in this car instead! We could hear him coming a mile away as he arrived with the music blaring.
We had a lolly scramble, some people managed to grab LOTS of lollies! They shared theirs with others which was great.

Go Zone

Emma and Shana are working together to solve some of the crosswords and activities in this Go Zone newspaper. This year we have used "Newspapers in Education" as part of our reading and language programme.

Push Play

On Friday 14th December our school particpated in a Push Play afternoon. Each pupil was part of a team which rotated around the playground and took part in a variety of different activities such as water relays, jump jam and egg and spoon races. Each team had 2 captains who were responsible for making sure that everyone in their team was fully involved. Points were awarded to teams that showed good sportsmanship.

Water Safety

As part of our aquatics programme, we practised how to tread water wearing a lifejacket in the pool. Here you can see Hunter, Luken and Russell relaxing in the water. A lifejacket is essential if you go out into the sea on a boat, canoe or kayak.
If you ever fall overboard remember NOT TO PANIC.

Halloween

What a scary sight when the door opened
Great costumes girls - I think I prefer Summer with blonde hair though!

Do you recognise some of these people?
Who is wearing the witch mask I wonder?
It is someone in our class..
Look at Jessica's hair - it's real and NOT a wig believe it or not!
These children went to a lot of effort to dress up and go trick or treating on Halloween. Luckily Miss Robinson had a few goodies to hand out when they knocked on the door!

Week 4 raffle winner is..

Congratulations to Jessica who won this weeks raffle prize. We are sure she will enjoy using these water pistols in the summer to squirt her friends!

Gala 2007

On your marks...GO!

We had some 3-legged races during athletics practise today. It was so much fun as you can see on the faces of the girls in the photo!
Shana and Jadine quickly worked how to run with their legs moving at the same time - they can run very fast together.

Other people found it really difficult to co-ordinate their legs with out tripping themselves up. Some people tried to just walk at first to get into a rhythm. It was a great way to learn how to work together as a team. It's also a good idea to buddy up with someone who is a similar height to you and to put your arms around each others shoulders for support. This makes it easier to balance and steady yourself.

Here you can see Breeze and Chloe trying to hold each other up!
We visited the Tyre Shop last week and asked them for an old inner tube. Miss Robinson then cut up the rubber into strips so there were plenty for everyone to have a go with today.
We will keep practising and see if we can improve a bit more!

Gala Art

As you can see in the photos below we have been busy designing our own lavalava patterns at school.
We used crayon and vivid to create these stunning pictures. The hardest part was making sure each picture was symmetrical. Colouring it all in also took a long time as we wanted out pictures to look professional so we had to make sure there were no white bits showing.
Our artwork is going to be displayed in the ART GALLERY at the gala on Friday night in Room 2.
If you see a pattern you really like, you might like to come along and buy it!!
The Gala starts at 5pm and finishes approx 8.30pm.
