Soccer coaching

On Monday Darren the soccer coach came over from Nelson to teach us some skills . We had to dribble the ball around some cones in a square shape. We had to dribble backwards which was really hard.
After that Darren taught us how to pass the ball with one foot and showed us how to use the other one for aiming. Then we went to play a game of soccer. One team was bibs and the other team was non bibs. The first goal went to the bibs team and the second goal also went to them too so they were the winners and the non bibs lost. After that we had to say thankyou to Darren and go home.

"A" Day

On "A" Day each class had to dress up in different colours. We had to dress in purple. A day was about autism that means we spent the afternoon playing with the ORRS students. We also were "appreciating" everyone as part of "A" day and celebrating how special and unique we all are. Some of the games were musical chairs then we did a obstacle corse then we did basketball skills .But just before we thought it was over we had to find ice cream sticks- there were 3 to find. Graces mum made Grace a t shirt out of a pillowcase and a skirt made out of wrapping paper.A day was the best day ever!!!

Bike Safety

Today Mr Tonkin came to talk to us about bike safety. We watched a video about a boy who really wante a bike but he had to find a helmet first. At the start of the movie we saw a boy who had fallen off his bike and became unconscious. He is now brain damaged and cannot walk or talk. if he had been wearing a helmet he might be still OK. After we had watched the movie we went outside and did a safety checklist with our bikes. Mr Tonkin told us we had to get into pairs and get a bike.

Here is a photo of Sam and Susie checking each others helmet straps to make sure they are correctly fitted. If your helmet is too loose, it will not protect you in an accident. The best helmets are the ones that are brightly coloured so that they can be easily seen by drivers on the road. Helmets should also have a special safety approved sticker on them.

Alana

Happy Birthday to you.....

Toby and Alysha both turned 8 years old this week. They brought these delcious looking birthday cakes along to share with their classmates. Toby had some sparkler candles which he blew out but it took him quite a few puffs first!! The cake was banana flavour and it was scrumptious. We had to cut the cakes into 27 pieces so that everyone in our class got a piece to eat.

Alysha's mum baked this really cool popcorn cake, inside it was chocolate flavoured. It had real coloured popcorn on the top. Alysha got a brand new bike for her birthday and it is purple, white and black and it is very shiny!

Spider Webs

We are studying spiders this term as part of our science unit. Yesterday we made these wool webs. It was quite tricky to wrap the wool around the sticks to make a pattern. As you can see, Callum did a fantastic job of weaving his wool around to make this cool pattern. Some people got their wool a bit tangled up!

Here is Ellen working on her wool web. She is busy trying to weave some yellow wool around the sticks.

Joy Cowley

Isaac is holding a book written by Joy Cowley called "Snake and Lizard". His mum went to a conference recently and she met Joy Cowley and got her autograph. Joy wrote a personal message on the inside cover. Joy Cowley has written lots of childrens books and is Isaac's favourite author. Joy Cowley is a New Zealander.

Dayna competed in the Weetbix try-athlon in Nelson on Sunday. She had to swim first then she biked and last of all she had to run. She got a medal, a t-shirt and her photo taken with 2 NZ Olympic athletes called Nick Willis and Andrea Hewitt. Nick Willis won a bronze medal at Beijing for the 1500 metres race and Andrea Hewitt came 5th in the womens triathlon in Beijing.
Way to go Dayna, you must be super fit!!

Swimming Sports

Saltwater Baths

The Middle Syndicate went on a trip to the Saltwater Baths down at the Motueka Beach. It was a l-o-n-g walk but it was worth it once we got there. We all sat in the shade to have our morning tea first and then each class had a turn at swimming in the baths. Mr Wentworth took all our bags down to the beach on the back of his ute so it made it easier for us to all walk. Even though the tide was out when we got there, the pool was full of water. Lots of people enjoyed jumping in from the side and splashing about.
Those who didn't want to swim spent time fossicking along the beach. There were lots of squeals from girls who were looking for crabs! Some children also built sandcastles and collected shells and feathers they found on the sand.
The playground was heaps of fun too. We tried to see how many people we could fit along the see-saw...
Thanks to all the mums, dads and grandparents who came on our trip with us. We had a fantastic day!
